St. Patrick's Day

Interesting facts

  • St. Patrick was not Irish. He was actually from Wales.
  • The first St. Patrick's Day parade took place in New York City in 1762. The St. Patrick's Day parade in New York is the world's oldest civilian parade and the largest in the United States. More than 3 million spectators line the route which is 1.5 miles long.
  • The traditional meal of corned beef and cabbage has nothing to do with corn. Instead in the process of curing beef, large grains of salt are used also known as "corns."
  • Originally blue was the color associated with St. Patrick before the adoption of green in 1798.
