Oral Exam Scripts

When you think of your oral exam, can you identify with how David must have felt when he first saw Goliath? No worries; we've got your slingshot. This manual compiles the recollections of others experience with the ABOG oral exam. Like your exam, the manual is divided into the three sections of OB, GYN, and Office. Each section is further organized by topic with introductory scripts for corresponding case list and structured cases. Not only will you have a great feel for the conduct of the exam, you will also have an indispensable study guide, as you will surely have some of the same topics on your case list and exam.

"I studied with a couple of friends who had products from other companies, so we pooled our resources. Not surprisingly, there was overlap of the recollections; however, the organization of your Scripts manual was TOP NOTCH. Quickly this became our 'go to' source since hands down was the easiest to navigate and the most thorough." -- AF November 2011

"The Scripts book was great, it was very helpful to know what to expect and prepare for. I even had some of the exact same questions on my exam!" -- VD December 2010

"I PASSED!!!!! Yippee and a million thanks. I wanted to share with the future student how I studied b/c I really think it helped: I made a huge list of topics from the syllabus and my case list about 6wks before the exam and did a topic review. Then I strictly used your oral exam scripts to review everything.  I really think this got me ready for the hard questions and let me review what I had already read. There were NO surprises on my test." -- LM January 2011

"I have similar products from another company, but yours is superior because of the detail and especially the organization" -- NG December 2010

"Very user friendly" -- ER November 2010

"I am an MFM fellow in my first year and will take the general boards this year. I bought and am reading your book on how to take and pass the oral ob/gyn board exam. I hope it is OK to email you with a question. I would greatly appreciate your advice! Your book is becoming indispensable in my preparation." -- ND May 2010

"I just bought 8 of your books to give to my graduating chief residents. I can't think of a better way to make a difference for their future." -- ND May 2010

"I was advised don't even attempt the case list without your book. I bought your book the first week of July and I am devouring it with the anticipation of preparing correctly for my orals." -- EB August 2010

"Our residency purchased your book for all the chief residents as a going away present. We refer to it as 'the Bible' for the oral exams."

"Your book has been the 'light in darkness' for this journey." -- AR, July 2010

My preparation for the 2009 exam was plainly deficient. For days after the test, I just shook my head when I thought about it. In June this year (2010), as I scrambled to complete another case list, I ordered your book and reading it was like finding religion.  I clearly hadn't grasped the magnitude of this test, and I certainly hadn't undertaken any strategy in my approach. For instance, it never occurred to me that I didn't HAVE to tolerate the restrictions and idiosyncracies of the ABOG software.  When I read your advice to create my own case list spreadsheet, I about fell off my chair with the genius of it!  Every piece of advice just seemed so profound that I decided to start over with a new approach to this beast." -- JL Oct 2010

Test Topics Manual

"I love that the yellow notes have specific ACOG compendium bulletins listed for each topic to direct & focus study of the compendium." Oct 08

"I see why you have the pages in yellow, as they are worth their weight in gold. This allowed me to condense the 900 page syllabus to 55 pages!" Sep 08

The ABC syllabus is based exclusively on the topics that are most likely to occur on your exam. Each lecture is accompanied by a manual that lists the exam focus that has historically and repeatedly occurred on the test. Additionally, the Test Topics Manual has a list of the most up-to-date accompanying ACOG Practice/Educational Bulletin and/or Committee Opinion pertinent to each topic. This Manual not only reinforces the exam focus of the lecture, but is an invaluable study aid to recapture the highlights on later review.

The Test Topics Manual is available for purchase to organize your studying, facilitate your case list construction/defense, or get a jump-start prior to the course. The Test Topics Manual is complimentary to all course attendees.

Annual MOC (Maintenance of Certification) Manual

Believe it or not, but your recertification (MOC) is affecting you now for your oral exam. All board certified OB/GYNs, including your examiners MUST maintain their certification by reading a list of selected publications in OB, GYN, & Office. They are all due September 30th, so they are fresh on your examiner's mind. You can bet the same topics will overlap with your case list. Our Annual MOC Manual summarizes the current and previous articles AND lists the overlapping written questions for each year. Your examiners will be most pleased with your contemporary knowledge!

For those of you preparing for your MOC Phase III or the Written Board Exam , ABOG has publicly acknowledged that the source for some of the questions will come from the articles. Uggh, do you dread the thought of rereading all those articles? No worries, for each year, we've summarized the articles AND the overlapping written questions -- HINT, HINT.

Course Recordings

If you can't come to our course or ideally would like to reinforce what you learned at the course, then our recordings are the best solution. We recorded our September 2007 course, which was updated in 2010. The recordings are available as audio only (mp3 format on CD) or audio and visual (DVD).

We have selected speakers that best represent your examiner's perspective. Thus the subspecialty topics are delivered by our MFM, Gyn Oncology, and REI subspecialists; the office gyn topics by our generalists and family planning, and the primary care by our internist. Like your examiners, our speakers are a mix of academicians and private practitioners. Every speaker is a clinician, who walks the talk.

"Your audio lectures were a great tool and was the 'music' I listened to on my way to/from the hospital. I have to share a funny story about them: they have a dangerous side too. One early morning I was driving home after a long night at the hospital and of course I was listening to one of your lectures, the one about the ureteral and bladder injuries. You said we have to know and memorize the course of the ureter and I found myself listening to your commands: 'I want you to close your eyes and imagine the ureter traveling...', and I was driving, and I closed my eyes; fortunately the gravel on the side of the road startled me out of my trance. That was a close call, but guess what they asked me on my exam? Yep, the course of the ureter...that one I couldn't suppress a laugh as I answered." -- VD December 2010

"The course topics were spot on with my exam topics." -- CC November 2010

Course Manual

Course Manual This binder is a collection of all the handouts that accompany the lectures. It is updated with every course. This is an invaluable study guide. It's most helpful to get a jump start on the course. It's helpful also if you can't attend the course, although we strongly encourage you then to purchase the DVD collection of all the lectures.

"I put a stickum on my handout each time I was reminded of a particularly difficult patient management issue. My intent was to go back and review their chart. I had to laugh, because at the end of the course, my binder was a rainbow of colored stickums. Not only did I get an excellent review for my test, but I carried away loads of tips for everyday practice management." -- ES June 2009

"I passed the oral board exam!!!  Thank you so much for the excellent preparatory materials.  The information in the binder truly was all that was necessary to pass the exam. I will definitely recommend the ABC review course to anyone interested in taking a board review course.  When speaking to my colleagues it seem like the info we received at the course was far superior to other prep courses." -- LP November 2010

"I loved the table of contents for the whole binder, the page numbers & cross-reference with yellow pages (Test Topics Manual). The organization made it a breeze to navigate both at the course and especially for later studying." -- November 2010

If you attend the course and purchase a CD or DVD, you'll receive the Course Manual FREE. Order HERE.
